“Evolve or Die.” A bold motto from the guys behind the successful Mods vs Rockers Chicago. They will celebrate their 10th Anniversary this year (2014) with a new, dialed-in and rockin’ motorcycle, scooter and hot rod event complete with a 3-day weekend of live music, a pin-up contest, vendor booths and much more. Introducing, “MOTOBLOT.”
This is a look back on our 2011 weekend adventure in Chicago during the annual Mods vs Rockers event. One of the event sponsors, Motoworks Chicago, provided us with a Tiger 800 XC to ride and film from (a big thanks to Johnny Scheff!). Relive the 2013 Mods vs. Rockers Chicago event taking place in Uptown Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom. The guys at Steel Toe Press throw a mean party, or in this case, the “largest urban vintage motorcycle rally in the United States.” We were there for the entire Saturday and captured this video-sampling of bikes, hot rods and rock n’ roll. There were top acts indoor and out, with a nice mix of rockabilly, psychobilly, roots rock and a little punk sprinkled in. If you missed this killer gathering of mods, rockers and rockabilly rebels, mark your calendar for next year: June 13th & 14th, 2014!
They said it was gonna be bigger and better. They said the entertainment was gonna be top notch. Man, did it rock. The guys at Steel Toe Press upped the ante this year at the 9th Annual Mods vs Rockers Chicago. Featuring the same great focus on vintage motorcycles and scooters, this was the first year at a new location that more comfortably and safely fit bikes, hot rods and vendors. More buzzworthy was the ability to offer an indoor and outdoor stage of killer bands at the historic Aragon Theater. Yep, it’s the biggest MvR event in America, but that hasn’t stopped Steel Toe Press from making it even bigger in 2013. The top-notch motorcycle and scooter rally will expand to include hot rods among thousands of vintage bikes n’ scoots. With the addition of the Aragon Ballroom, Chicago’s premiere venue for live entertainment, attendees will experience an indoor and outdoor mix of motorcycles and music, featuring Reverend Horton Heat, ‘Stray Cat’ Lee Rocker, the Supersuckers and more great bands.
When Johnny Scheff walks into a room, it’s not uncommon to hear someone say, “John-naay!!” As owner of Motoworks Chicago, he’s a quick-moving busy fella, but always deliberate with his handshake and hello.
