The weather is warming up in the Circle City, time for the annual Rockers Reunion event that brings out the city’s best vintage, custom and retro bikes. Expect most of the bikes to be ridden in cuz this gathering draws many, many motorcyclists who actually ride their nostalgic machines.
As a prelude to the big Rockers Reunion Indy event, Ton Up Indianapolis hosted a gallery event to unveil the trophies that would be awarded at the June 1st bike show. We headed downtown, toward Fountain Square, to check out the motorcycle-related art, photography and handcrafted trophies. The weather was perfect, a nice Spring primer to the warm-weather motorcycling ahead.
After designing the graphics, we dusted off the vinyl plotter and stickered up the shop bike, a Ural Red October sidecar motorcycle. The intention was to echo the good ol’ days of hand-lettered service trucks and bold branding.
We appreciate layers of synthetic stuff that lessen the impact between skulls and things that are harder than skulls. At ICON Motosports, there’s some impressive tech goin’ on within the structure of their helmets, but they value a killer facade, too. So do we. Well, we finally did it. We got ourselves a sidecar motorycle. Not long after the purchase, we were ‘flying the chair’ and cruising the streets in our our new-to-us 2010 Ural “Red October” sidecar motorcycle. Driving slowly in the dark at 4:45am, Casey and I spotted a glowing iPhone waving at us. We pulled along the curb and our buddy, Chris, hopped in. It would be the beginning of a 2-hour conversation about motorcycles as we drove south. None of us are early birds, but we were wide-awake that morning.
