You don’t need backwoods or mountains for an adventure, an urban setting will provide plenty challenges, dangers and varying scenery. Unlike an introspective off-road journey, the city provides an audience. Riding by bus stops and passing pedestrians, the Ural attracts many smiling and bewildered people. Others react to the red sidecar as if they had just spotted a unicycling clown.

2013 Motorcycles on Meridian – Indianapolis – Friday

This photo set is just a fraction of what you’ll see at Motorcycles on Meridian, a huge gathering of bikes during the Red Bull Indianapolis GP weekend. If you’re in town for the race or you’re a local Hoosier, just point your bike toward the center of the city and you’ll see the streets swelling with motorcycles. It all starts up again around 4pm today (Saturday 8/17).

Meet Mel Harder: Indy Motor Speedway VP of Operations

(Update: Mel has been named senior vice president and general manager of the Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas. We congratulate him on his new direction and wish him the best of luck. -GSG)

Mel Harder is a motorcyclist. He’s a listener, an observer, and a doer. He grew up in Speedway, Indiana, beginning a lifelong involvement with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In 2002, he took the reigns as Senior VP of Operations at IMS and later helped secure a deal that brought MotoGP racing to Indy in 2008.
